Chevery is one of the newer communities on the Lower North Shore. It has roots dating back to a French fur trading and seal fishing post opened in the 1730s. This post was abandoned in the 1770s a few years after the British took power in the area.
In the late 1950s, an assemblage of people from various surrounding, some no longer existing, communities made it clear that they wanted a permanent mainland community with access to various public services

Attractions
While in Chevery, you can stroll along the beautiful Netagamiou River Hicking Trail. Netagamiou is a Montagnais word meaning "the little water running in the big water". This is probably a reference to the fact that the Netagamiou is a tributary of the Little Mecatina.
