Wildberry The development of a wildberry cooperative will build a sense of ownership and pride for the Lower North Shore and will be the start of a larger regional structure that will cover a multitude of other Non-Timber Forestry Products. It will provide the opportunity to create local employment opportunities, enhance worker skills and encourage our youth to return after their studies and to reinvest in the region.
In 2005 a Market plan was carried out with the support of Economic Development Canada (DEC) and three (3) Volet II (inventory of the wild fruit) were also carried out in the Municipality of Bonne Esperance. Information was collected on the following five small fruits, the redberry (Vaccinium vitis idaea), the mashberry (Vaccinium oxyccocos), the black crowberry (Empetrum nigrum), the cloudberry (Rubus chamaemorus) and the squashberry (Viburnum trilobum).
Four mushroom species were also identified; the hollow-foot (Boletinus cavipes), the trumpet chanterelle (Cantharellus tubaeformis), the hedgehog (Hydnum umbilicatum) and the waxcap (Hygrocybe pratensis) and further exploration will be done on the mushroom this season.
