Tête-à-la-Baleine is named after a whale-head shaped island off shore. What is really intersting about this village is the fact that for a long time it was split into two villages. One was on Providence island, about 10 km from the mainland which was inhabited in the summer months, and the other village was on the mainland which was lived in during the winter months, where firewood was more accesible. This practice ended shortly after motorboats became available, but the summer homes are still in use on weekends and during summer vacation. All this makes for a wonderful stay, any time of the year.
