Fisheries

Fishing is the main industry on the Lower North Shore, unfortunately it has declined. A moratorium (closer of the ground fishery) coupled with the recession, created a bleak outlook for the future of the Coast. The demand for crab enables the continued operation of fish plants, yet some are struggling. Since the closure of the ground fishery, programs have been developed for both the fishermen and plant workers, (ie: TAGS, early retirement, etc.), this program is near its completion.

The Fishermens Association is organized to inform and aid the fishing industry of the Coast.
