Economy, Tourism and Employment

    A boat for visitors.

The LNS economy has several challenges facing it. The pristine condition of the land is the result of a nonexistent road system, and the unique charm of the area is partly the result of communications isolation. Economies in all areas benefit from efforts to improve them, that of the Coast is no exception.

The Association forges alliances with on-off coast organisations and businesses, such as Carrefour Jeunesse-Emploi, the Local Development Center, Association Touristique Regionale de Duplessis, Human Resources Development, the Fishermen's Association, Nordic Express, the Quebec Labrador Foundation, etc. These partnerships bring business to the Coast and aid these organisations in improving the LNS economy and standard of living. Research is constantly underway into enterprises arriving on or having potential to affect the coast.

The Coasters' Association supports new local business initiatives with information and connections, the results of continuing research. The association also publishes tourist guides which are a valuable targeted advertising resource for small business, bringing off-coast funds onto the coast.

One of the Coast's most precious resources is its pristine environment. The Association works to preserve the environment in collaboration with Conseil Régional de L'Environnement de la Côte Nord(CRE), Zones d'Intervention Priorité and the Quebec Labrador Foundation, to identify and address environmental issues and to inform the public.

The Association itself is active in the local economy, hiring several types of workers on a part time basis for secretarial, communications, accounting and general assistance to the public.
